We gathered each week to discover the versatility of our voices and immerse ourselves in sound. Over the span of 6 weeks, I had the pleasure of meeting incredible new friends as we began the practice of vocal mediation.
Vocal meditation invites us to utilize our voice, one of humanity's most sacred and mysterious gifts, to soothe, relax, and bring our bodies into balance. Each week we explored toning, chant, and improvised sound. The second week featured Usha Rajagopalan. Usha spoke with us about creating a space for vocal meditation practice. She then guided us in the practice of chanting "Aum Nama Shivaya" a sacred Hindu mantra.
We explored the science supporting how sound coupled with intention has the power to heal us from the inside out. One of my favorite meditations during the course was a partner meditation. The mediation invited us to use nonverbal sound to convey various themes. There were many, many moments when the sound we created filled the room, filled us and allowed us to become sound.
